Shri Premanand Maharaj Ji is clear that true bhakti — real devotion — has nothing to do with outward performance. It is not about how many times you ring a bell, how long you sit in puja, or how loudly you chant. True bhakti, as he teaches it, is a state of the heart. It is when your love for Radha-Krishna becomes so natural, so unconditional, that it colours everything you do — the way a drop of ink colours a whole glass of water.

He often says: if your bhakti disappears when something goes wrong in your life, that was not bhakti — that was a transaction. True bhakti does not depend on whether God is giving you what you want. It is not a deal. A mother does not love her child only when the child is obedient. In the same way, a true devotee's love does not waver based on what God gives or withholds. This steadiness, this love without expectation, is what Maharaj Ji calls shuddha bhakti — pure devotion.

The good news, he says, is that you do not have to manufacture this love. You begin wherever you are. You sit with God's name, you try, you ask Radha Rani herself to give you the taste for her name. She is the one who gives bhakti. Your job is simply to turn toward her — again and again, as many times as the mind turns away.
