Ask Shyra — Go DeeperSometimes the people closest to us — a spouse who does not support our spiritual life, a parent who mocks our bhakti, a child who has moved in a direction that breaks our heart — become the very thing that challenges our faith. Shri Premanand Maharaj Ji speaks to this with extraordinary sensitivity. He says: do not be surprised. God has always tested his most beloved devotees through the people closest to them.
He teaches that when relationships become difficult, the spiritual response is not to withdraw love or harden the heart. It is to go deeper into God. The very pain of the relationship becomes the fuel for prayer. When you cannot understand why someone you love is treating you this way, and you fall on your knees and say 'Radhe, I don't understand, but I trust You' — that is one of the deepest prayers a person can make.
Maharaj Ji also says: do not let any human being's opinion of your bhakti become the measure of your bhakti. If your family does not respect your practice, practise quietly. Do it for God, not for their approval. And continue loving them. The steadiness of your love — maintained through difficulty — is itself a form of worship. God sees it even if no one else does.
