Ask Shyra — Go DeeperShri Premanand Maharaj Ji speaks about the human birth with both reverence and urgency. He says: this birth is extremely rare. Among all the forms of life in creation, the human form is the only one capable of genuine love for God — of bhakti. Plants grow, animals feel, but only the human heart can consciously choose to turn toward the divine. This is the unique gift and the unique responsibility of being born human.
He teaches that the purpose of this life is not achievement, wealth, pleasure, or even happiness in the ordinary sense. These things are not wrong — but they are not the point. The point is to know God, to love God, and to return to God. He often says: we left our true home — Vrindavan, the abode of divine love — and took birth in this world. The longing we feel, the sense that something is missing even when everything seems fine — that is the soul's homesickness. It is the soul trying to find its way back.
The reason Maharaj Ji emphasises naam jap so consistently is precisely because of this teaching about the purpose of life. He says: you have been given a limited number of breaths. You do not know how many are left. Every breath spent in God's name is a breath used for what this birth is actually for. He speaks about this with warmth, not fear — not to terrify us into action, but to awaken us to a joy that is available right now, in this life, in this very moment. 'Radhe Radhe' — this is the purpose, already in your mouth.
